Kayla & Brett married outdoors in Oakdale under a flower-draped arbor, deep purple their color and a loved one honored beside them — a heartfelt, personal day.
Kayla and Brett didn't want a big production. They wanted to stand outside under open sky, in front of the people closest to them, and simply get married — and that honesty is what made the day so moving. They built the ceremony around a wooden arbor wrapped in flowing purple and lavender fabric, white chairs set out on the grass and a wood fence and trees framing the whole scene. Purple was clearly their color: Kayla came down the aisle in a stunning deep sapphire-and-violet ombré gown, the tulle catching the daylight as she walked.
She came down to an acoustic "Speechless" by Dan + Shay, and Brett — a big, tough rancher — completely melted. The detail that stopped me was the framed photo set up near the front, a loved one given a place of honor so they could be part of the moment too. You see that sometimes, and it always lands the same way — a quiet reminder that a wedding gathers everyone a couple carries with them, present and remembered. There were a lot of hands reaching for shoulders during the vows.
It wasn't all solemn, either. Their first dance was "Tennessee Whiskey," and they swayed under the open evening like no one else existed. Then we opened the floor with "Wagon Wheel" — an instant packed floor — and ran a country-and-everything mix that kept both halves of the room going. "Watermelon Crawl" got a full line dance rolling across the lawn, and there was an easy, playful warmth to the crowd, even a costumed character wandering the grass that got the kids going.
Late in the night, Brett's buddies demanded "Friends in Low Places," and the whole crowd became one giant singalong. We closed with "Don't Stop Believin'" and a glow-stick send-off into the warm Oakdale night.
Kayla and Brett, thank you for a day that was so unmistakably yours — heartfelt, a little unconventional, and full of love for everyone in your circle, here and missed.
