Maya & Devin's Summer Wedding in Elk Grove, CA

Maya & Devin married on a warm Fourth-of-July-weekend evening in Elk Grove — a relaxed summer celebration built around the people they love most.

There's a particular kind of joy to a holiday-weekend wedding. Everyone arrives already a little off the clock, in no hurry, ready to celebrate — and Maya and Devin's Elk Grove evening had that ease running through it from the start. Summer around Sacramento means you plan for the heat and let the night do the heavy lifting, and these two timed it perfectly. As the worst of the warmth faded, the celebration came to life, guests settling in for a long, relaxed evening together rather than rushing through a schedule.

Maya had come down the aisle to a string version of "Can't Help Falling in Love," and Devin just mouthed "wow." What stayed with me was how clearly this day was about them and the people in the room — the look the two of them shared during their first dance to "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, the way the family closed in around them, the toasts that went a beat longer than planned because nobody wanted to stop talking about these two.

After dinner the floor opened to "September," and the Elk Grove crowd packed it immediately. The night built beautifully from there — a throwback surge with "Crazy in Love," a run of current hits, and a long stretch of crowd-pleasers that kept every generation on its feet. We kept it flexible and read it as it unfolded, leaning into the requests and the people who couldn't stay off the floor.

The peak was a full-floor "Sweet Caroline," everyone belting it out into the warm summer night. We closed with "Don't Stop Believin'" and a sparkler send-off. With a crowd already in celebration mode, the job is mostly to stay out of the way of the joy and keep it rolling — and this group made that easy.

Maya and Devin, thank you for a warm, easygoing summer night and for surrounding yourselves with people who so obviously adore you. Wishing you two a long, happy marriage.
