Ever wonder what your DJ is actually doing all day? Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how we run a wedding from early load-in to the last dance.
A wedding day for a professional DJ starts hours before guests arrive — load-in, setup, and soundcheck — then flows through ceremony audio, cocktail hour, the grand entrance, dinner, formalities, and open dancing, all driven by the timeline. The visible part (playing music) is the tip of a long, carefully managed day.
The polished reception you experience is the result of hours of work most guests never see. Here's the real timeline.
Hours Before: Load-In & Setup
We arrive well before guests — often two or more hours early — to load in equipment, set up the sound system and lighting, run cables safely, and position everything for the room. Setup is unhurried on purpose, so there's time to get it right.
Soundcheck
Before a single guest arrives, we test everything: speakers, microphones, the ceremony system, and music levels. This is where problems get caught and solved — quietly, in advance, never during your first dance.
Ceremony & Cocktail Hour
We run ceremony audio — processional, vows through a lavalier mic, recessional — then shift to cocktail-hour music while you finish photos and guests mingle. The energy is intentional: warm and easy.
Grand Entrance & Dinner
We cue the grand entrance, often roll into the first dance, then set a comfortable dinner soundtrack while weaving in toasts and parent dances — adjusting in real time as the kitchen and timeline dictate.
Open Dancing
This is where the night peaks. We read the crowd, build energy, take smart requests, and keep the floor full — adjusting song by song based on who's dancing.
The Send-Off & Load-Out
We cue the final song or send-off, give the night its big finish, then break down and load out — long after the last guest has left. Then we do it all again next weekend.
Why This Matters to You
Knowing the work behind the scenes is why experience and preparation are worth paying for. A pro has done this hundreds of times and plans for everything. Tell us about your day and see what our couples say.
